Python Dominates New Technologies:
Python remains the clear leader among engineering programming languages and engineers, beating Java and JavaScript in the IEEE Spectrum 2021 ranking of the top languages.
Its journal IEEE Spectrum taps members from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other sources to produce its annual rankings of programming languages.
Another time, IEEE Spectrum puts Python as the most widely used programming language. It’s seen huge growth because it’s relatively simple to learn and has a robust library ecosystem that can improve its application in machine learning. These include Tensor the Flow library, NumPy as well as SciPy.
Python is object-oriented, and an interpreted language “gains much of its power from a large constellation of libraries, including popular modules for machine learning and scientific computing.”
According to IEEE Spectrum, the most significant result of its study was “Learn Python” because the program “dominates as the de-facto platform for new technologies.”
“You don’t have to become a dyed-in-the-wool Pythonista, but learning the language well enough to use one of the vast numbers of libraries written for it is probably worth your time,” it stated.
Python’s most popular ten languages in the IEEE Spectrum 2021 ranking included Java, C, C++, JavaScript, C#, R, Go, HTML, and Swift.
The top 20 included Arduino, Matlab, PHP, Dart, SQL, Ruby, Rust, Assembly, Kotlin, and Julia.
The number of members among electrical engineers is a significant factor in the popularity of languages. The IEEE Spectrum rankings are an indicator of which languages are worthy of time and effort to master. It is different from other popular language indexes like Tiobe and RedMonk’s developer analyst ranking.
RedMonk is a program that uses Stack Overflow and GitHub statistics to determine the rank of different languages and languages, ranked JavaScript at the top of the list, followed by Python and Java in its Q3 report 2021. Tiobe’s August 2021 uses the search engine query, features C as the top language, followed by Python, Java, C++, C++, Python, and C#.
Although Python is popular due to these reasons, it’s not without its flaws: it’s not fast as C and is not as fast as C, has nothing to do with the development of mobile apps, and is beaten by JavaScript along with Microsoft’s version, TypeScript, for front-end web development.
Anaconda, the creator of an acclaimed CPython-based distribution used for research, announced this week that it would be supporting Pyston. Pyston project to help make Python significantly faster.
IEEE Spectrum’s interactive ranking offers an alternative method of dividing rankings, for instance, by displaying them on the mobile, enterprise, web, and embedded.
Although Arduino is a type of microcontroller frequently employed to add mechanical functions in Raspberry pi computers isn’t an official computer programming language IEEE Spectrum argues it is worth considering as a possible language.
IEEE Spectrum’s principal data sources on the popularity of languages comprise CareerBuilder, GitHub, Google, Hacker News, the IEEE, Reddit, Stack Overflow, and Twitter.
“The default ranking is designed to reflect the interests of a typical IEEE member. The metrics are drawn from sources that we think are good proxies for gauging the popularity of languages since it’s impossible to know exactly what everyone is doing at their keyboards,” IEEE Spectrum describes in a blog post.
A notable shift in the rankings for 2021 was Microsoft’s Number, which increased from 25th in 2020 to seventh in 2021. IEEE Spectrum speculates this was due to version 9.0 of C# released in the latter half of 2020. It’s a crucial component in Microsoft’s form-factor and cross-platform strategy to their .NET developer platform that includes .NET 5.
